JinJu Mr Tofu, LA
3377 Wilshire Blvd, #100, LA T. (213) 282 6789
Our taste preferences have evolved over the many visits to LA. On previous trips, we were practically permanent features at the Japanese corner at Sawtelle and Olympic, as well as in JapanTown (I strongly believe that LA has some of the best Japanese restaurants anywhere), these days our noses lead us to KoreaTown or K-town as the locals call it.
Jin Ju Mr Tofu is part of a chain that sells a limited selection of hot pot soups. Surprisingly, for a place with “tofu” to its name, there is only one tofu selection on its menu, while the other soups range from seafood, to ribs to beef. There was even a barbeque beef set.
We ordered the tofu hotpot – spicy, just the way I like it, along with a rib soup (middle pix) that was served unflavoured but with salt and different sauces on the side for you to add to taste. Sounds modest, but with the many side dishes that accompany all Korean meals, we had before us quite a spread – which was perfect for that cold evening.
